Festival ŽIVÉ MĚSTO
Young people that live, study or just spend their time in
Prague 6 founded the civic association The City Alive in September 2010 in
order to bring the place to life. Although Prague 6 is one of the
wealthiest communities in the Czech Republic, there is no working
cinema, its public space hosts no events and independent culture
receives only minimal support. Several alternative venues with a regular
program of events have emerged recently, but the public barely knows
about them.
We understand „the city alive“ to be more than just
high-quality housing. It also means rich cultural life, good
neighborhood relationships etc. That is why we organized a non-profit
multi-genre festival in autumn 2011 and also in autumn 2012 that brought
Prague 6 to life with film screenings with discussions about urban
issues, cultural events in the streets or a picnic in a park. The
festival attracted many visitors, (see photo gallery).
The City
Alive festival will take place for the third year in a row in Prague’s
6th district, mainly in Dejvice and Bubeneč, in the time between 21st to
22nd and 26th to 29th September 2013, organized by the civic
association of the same name. We would like to revitalize cultural
landscape in the public space particularly in the Prague 6th
neighborhood.
The non-profit multi-genre festival with the
subtitle Come Alive Together In Your Neighborhood, will this year focus
its actions on train stations and back yards or gardens, and these
meeting places will be liven with a multitude of site-specific actions.
On the program are events as for example dancing on the railway station
platform, an exhibition in the station’s waiting room or a guided walk
focusing on Dejvice and Bubeneč backyard. "We are trying to treat this
year’s festival as a local event among neighbors. The guided tours will
include visits of several back yards, which will be introduced directly
by the residents of adjacent houses, who will further with our help at
some places prepare breakfasts or workshops, "said the organizer Tereza
Mašková.
The festival will also include the Dejvice sections of
neighborhood street fair/festival A Different City Experience, an open
air screening of the film The Venice Syndrome (Andreas Pichler, 2012),
garden flea market and or a neighborhood cross country run competition
in Divoká Šárka. Jindřich Pinc, also an organizer, on the concept of the
festival: "We are trying to make sure that our activities contribute to
the debate over the use of urban public space and to keep the people’s
interest in the vicinity they live in."
Our festival City Alive
is meant for all age groups, both for residents of Prague 6th district,
as well as for those from other Prague’s districts. The festival is a
non-profit and low-budget activity; this year’s event is supported by
the Prague City Hall and the municipality of Prague 6th district
contributed to the neighbor fair Different City Experience. Another
important partner is Cultural Center Klubovna. Admission to all events
is free of charge.

Summary:
A train station is not just a place of departure it’s also a waiting
place it is not seldom a temporary home - a sanctuary, so to speak.
That's when you’ve missed the last train or if it is simply used as a
convenient, publicly accessible area used by the homeless or even
swallows. The nest is also a kind of object-absurd compromise that is
offered to anyone as a "cosy" retreat, not as a compromise solution
suitable for neither swallow nor for humans. At the same time the clutch
is connected to the audio document homeless reality (not) creating a
home. Author of the installation: Jan Kalivoda

19.35 Funebráci (The Undertakers)
Meeting at: platform of Praha-Dejvice train station
Summary:
A bizarre performance by the theatre group Wariot Ideal will take place
in the streets between the Praha Dejvice and Praha Bubeneč train
stations. Four undertakes with the coffin on their shoulders followed by
a funeral band are searching the town for a place to bury the
deceased... Places are scarce all untilled plots have long been
purchased by developers.
Their strength is shrinking under the
weight of the coffin and they need a rest on their never-ending journey.
The grim procession does not get a moment of peace – the coffin turns
into a puppet theater or billiard table, the actors themselves into
magicians and cabaret artist ... The story of four undertakers, two
musicians on a winding journey towards their desired goal – the funeral,
is full of traps and absurdity.
Arranged by: Jan Dörner, Milena Fabiánová, Jan Kalivoda, Michael Vodenka, Lucie Škandíková and Vojta Švejda.
